Non-Alcoholic Wine Gifts Available on Benolo

In recent years, the alcohol beverage industry has undergone a significant transformation, driven by shifting consumer drinking habits. Technological advancements and advancements in chemistry have empowered brands to create innovative and flavorful products that were previously unimaginable. This has paved the way for the introduction of new product lines that cater to evolving consumer preferences and demands. Furthermore, the increasing focus on leading a healthier lifestyle has propelled the rapid growth of non-alcoholic beverages. Although the non-alcoholic beverage category has been around for some time, the variety and quality of products available today have experienced a remarkable improvement, enticing consumers with exceptional choices.

What is non-alcoholic wine?

Contrary to common belief, the term “non-alcoholic wine” is actually misleading. According to legal standards, wines with an alcohol content below 8% ABV should be referred to as “wine-based drinks.” If you’re specifically seeking wine with zero alcohol content, it’s advisable to consider mocktails instead, as even wines labeled as “alcohol-free” may still contain traces of alcohol at 0.05% ABV.

However, if your goal is to reduce your alcohol intake, there are several options available in the market. It’s important to note that alcohol-free wines vary in their alcohol content, ranging from as low as 0.05% to 1.2% ABV.

How is it produced?

Non-alcoholic wine undergoes the same production process as traditional wine, but with a crucial step at the end to remove the alcohol content.
One of the most commonly employed methods to eliminate alcohol from wine is vacuum distillation. This process involves the application of heat to evaporate a majority of the alcohol while preserving the wine’s original flavors. By carefully controlling the temperature to prevent the wine from burning or boiling, the alcohol is separated from the rest of the liquid, resulting in a wine with minimal alcohol content.

The use of vacuum distillation ensures that the final product retains the intended flavor profile of the original wine while containing the lowest possible amount of alcohol. This meticulous approach allows wine producers to cater to the growing demand for non-alcoholic options while maintaining the distinct characteristics and nuances that wine enthusiasts appreciate.

By employing advanced techniques such as vacuum distillation, winemakers can create non-alcoholic wines that offer a similar sensory experience to their alcoholic counterparts, allowing individuals to enjoy the flavors, aromas, and complexities of wine without the presence of alcohol.

What does non-alcoholic wine taste like?

Non-alcoholic wine offers a unique sensory experience that closely resembles traditional wine, albeit with a few notable distinctions.

In terms of appearance, non-alcoholic wine possesses the same visual characteristics as its alcoholic counterparts. It showcases the rich hues, ranging from pale straw to deep ruby, that are indicative of different grape varieties and winemaking techniques.

When it comes to aroma, non-alcoholic wine captures the essence of the grape varietals used in its production. The familiar scents of ripe fruits, floral notes, and hints of oak or spice can still be detected, contributing to the overall aromatic complexity.

In terms of taste, non-alcoholic wine aims to mimic the flavor profile of traditional wine as closely as possible. It delivers the characteristic flavors associated with various grape varieties, such as the crispness of a Sauvignon Blanc or the velvety richness of a Cabernet Sauvignon. However, due to the absence of alcohol, there may be a slight variation in the mouthfeel and body of the wine.

Non-alcoholic wine often exhibits a lighter and more refreshing texture, making it an enjoyable beverage option for those seeking a lighter drinking experience. The absence of alcohol allows the flavors of the wine to shine through without any harsh or overpowering sensations.

It is important to note that the taste of non-alcoholic wine can vary depending on the brand, grape varietals used, and the specific winemaking techniques employed. Some non-alcoholic wines may have a slightly sweeter or fruitier profile to compensate for the absence of alcohol, while others may aim to replicate the traditional wine taste more accurately.

Giesen – New Zealand Merlot

Expect delicate aromas of crushed blackberry and wild herbs in this alcohol-removed Merlot. Crushed red berries and plum offset by toasted oak on the palate combine to give a light and refreshing option with classic structure and fine, powdery tannins on the finish.

It’s the structure and fine tannin in this wine that makes it a great choice with food – try it with red meats or tapas. Or because of the wonderful lightness, it’s a refreshing wine choice for sunny afternoons.

Sovi – Chenin Blanc

Our 2021 Chenin Blanc has notes of honeydew melon, pear and Meyer lemon. Beautifully textured on the palate with crisp acidity.

Nestled in the Sacramento River Delta, Clarksburg is well known for producing vibrant Chenin Blanc, a late ripening grape and this wine hails from a single vineyard there. The cooling breezes help to maintain fresh acidity, and warm sunny days allow for even ripening. We were so impressed by this particular lot that we held it back to give it extended aging it on its lees for 12 months to develop a creamy texture and nuanced characteristics.
